Description
Cultivate a piece of Scandinavian charm with Hesselbækgård Mint. Originating from Denmark, this herb offers far more than the classic mint flavour and aromatic leaves. Superb for teas, and good too for culinary uses, and as an ornamental addition, Hesselbakgard Mint adds a touch of Danish heritage to your outdoor space. Chilgrove mint collection states it as being Swedish, but given Hesselbækgård garden center opened as a nursery in 1981, near the Swedish border, I would inclined to suggest it is in fact Danish. In agreement however, with Chilgroves statemnet, it is definitely one of a group of mints, similar in appearance and smell, that the Mentha taxonomy does not adequately accommodate. Others include the Italian mints: Mentha sp. Aosta and Mentha sp. Menta forte and Mentha sp. Verona; and the mint which has become widespread amongst collectors called M. arvensis piperascens which is regarded as Japanese Mint. The leaves being opposite, rounded, bright light green petiolate. And full of wonderfully complex flavours, including linalool and carvone, as much as menthol.
